Follow-up Comments From Teachers and Parents

The following statements are various comments by teachers, parents and therapists relating to some of the children who attended Camp Grassick recently. Some comments are in response to the question “How do you feel last summer’s camping session benefited this child?”
(Names have been changed.)

Tom still talks about attending Camp Grassick. He enjoyed the different activities and children he met while at camp. Tom has severe apraxia, and the students at his school are not real patient with trying to figure out what he is saying. Camp was so beneficial because he was able to “fit in” with a group of children better. Tom needs all the positive social interaction he can get.

Jonathon needs structure. He loved summer camp and talks about cabin five all the time.

Thank you for providing a camp for our special education population! For two weeks my student was accepted as he was, without being ridiculed or bullied for the majority of his day. He is looking forward to attending Camp Grassick again.

Helped him to get along socially with other students.

I have heard nothing but positive comments from parents and students who have participated in the program in the past.

She grew emotionally so much. It gave her a strong sense of self-confidence and great self-esteem. She was apprehensive to go but can't wait to go back. A very positive experience.

The camp was so good for our daughter. She had never been away from the family for an extended period of time. She adjusted beautifully and can't wait to go again. Thank you Camp Grassick!

It helped Lisa see other campers carrying out responsibilities and tasks who have similar abilities. Parents commented that Lisa seemed more confident in her capabilities. Her social skills with peers showed more growth.

He looks forward to it! He benefits from the socializing and independence.

Harry needs the structure provided at summer camp. Thanks for your services.

It was a very positive experience for her and her parents.

Anton enjoys camp very much. At camp he is given the opportunity to interact with peers and adults which helps him gain confidence in himself. He really seems to shine when he returns

Reading fluency and comprehension has improved as has self-confidence.

He was enthusiastic about his experiences. I believe his social skills improved greatly. He has interacted with other children more on his own with less cueing from staff.

Any help maintaining academics is great. Social skills and general camping experience is what I appreciate the most for my students!

Any student I have sent there has enjoyed their camping experience very much. Great program!
