It was another nice day at camp. The lake is gradually warming up with the sun so it was another good day to go swimming! A few people took out the paddle boats and kayaks but they soon discovered they had to stay close to the shore. It wasn't too windy but enough to make it hard to maneuver those paddle boats!
We took our mile walk after supper and then we played trivia! We played in teams with breaks where everyone could raise their hand to answer "quick questions". Some questions were very easy like, 'What is the name of our lake?" (Isabel). Some questions were very hard like, "What does 'D' stand for in Roman Numerals?" (500). It was a fun challenge! Before bed, we played a quick game of Find Your Counselor. Some counselors were found quickly but some were never found and we had to ring the bell to gather them all back again. Good hiders!

We have just been so busy around here that I am slacking in my posts! Monday was FINALLY a warm and sunny day! Yay! It was so nice to enjoy the sunshine and best of all, we got to go in swimming for general swim! The maintenance men put the pontoon in today too, so a few people took a boat ride with Dan during swim time. The water is still chilly but it was fun!
For our evening activity, we had the Mandan Indians. They are a group of Shriners from Bismarck-Mandan. They dress in authentic Native American costumes and dance. We all get to join in as they teach us some of the dances. They also bring us ice cream treats! After that, we had our campfire. It was a perfect evening as the sun set over Lake Isabel. We sang many favorites and of course Dan led the Bear Hunt! Oops! I'm a little late with this post! Yesterday, Sunday, was visitors day so we had quite a few families around camp. It's always nice for the campers to show their families around camp and point out their favorite things.
We had a lot of free time in the morning so most played on the playground or watched cartoons in the rec hall. We had a feast for lunch! Roast beef, mashed potatoes and gravy, vegetables and fresh dinner rolls followed by strawberry shortcake for dessert! We are so spoiled! This was after a breakfast of french toast and bacon which made everyone happy as well! After rest hour, we played a big game of kickball and even had a parent or two joining in! We had trading post and then went on a scavenger hunt, looking for something around camp that started with every letter of the alphabet. Let me tell you, some of those letters are challenging! After supper, we played capture the flag. This is always a favorite at two week camp. Some of the girls were already analyzing their strategy at supper! We finished the evening with a very nice church service. Another rainy day! We are sure wishing the weather would warm up! We slept in this morning and then had a few classes before the non-counseling staff left on their day off. We had our smorgasbord of leftovers for lunch. It's one of the campers' favorite meals - so many good things to choose from!
After rest hour, everyone spent some time cleaning up their cabins for our visitors tomorrow. Cabin 4W won the "Clean Cabin" trophy for this week. Since it was raining, we gathered in the dining hall for activities. After breaking in to teams, we did some hidden picture pages. They were a lot harder than we thought but everyone worked so well in their teams and had fun competing for free trading post! Then we had a coloring contest which was judged by our cooks. I'm glad that I didn't have to judge because there were some really awesome artists! For our evening activity, we had a movie complete with pop and popcorn. We watched Simon Birch which is an older movie that many of the campers had not seen. There are some funny parts but it is also a good story and by the end, there were a few tears in all of our eyes. Friday the 13th wasn't an unlucky day for us! In fact, most of the campers would probably say it was their lucky day because we FINALLY got to go swimming again! It wasn't a super warm day, but the sun came out enough to warm it up for a short swim this afternoon. Many brave souls ventured in to the water, at least for part of the time.
Today was tye dye day in crafts which is always a favorite. We are looking forward to seeing all the colorful creations next week after they have been washed. It's hard to be patient about these things! Tonight's activity was Special Olympics. We did the standing long jump, softball throw, free throws and the "75 yard" dash. We aren't sure of the exact distance on that one but we sure have some fast kids! And the arms on these softball throwers - whew, I'm sure glad I wasn't catching! We are looking forward to sleeping in tomorrow since it's Saturday and having a relaxing weekend! It was another cool day at camp. We did have some sunshine but the breeze off the lake was a bit brisk! The campers said they would brave the cold water for swimming but we decided that probably wasn't the best idea! We had slept in this morning because of a staff meeting the night before so we spent swim time making up classes.
Thankfully, the evening turned beautiful in time for our evening activity - Hay Ride! We had a nice ride through the country and even saw some water ninjas! Those who weren't on the ride played Bingo and won some fun prizes! Cabin 8 had their camp out this evening too. They got to enjoy some s'mores and sleep in tents! It was a very rainy day at Camp today! The wind coming off the lake sure didn't feel like a June breeze. The campers were good sports about having to stay inside for most of the day today.
After Trading Post, we had a few games of ping pong where the kids were able to win free trading post for tomorrow! During general swim time, we changed up the routine by changing counselors! All of the staff rotated to a different cabin group to hang out with some new faces on this wet day! For our evening activity, we finished watching our movie from yesterday. While we were doing that, the counselors were all supposed to be hiding for Find Your Counselor (a giant game of hide and seek). However, it was just too wet to find any good hiding spots but they thought about some good spots so hopefully they will be able to hide later. The campers always really enjoy finding their counselors in all sorts of crazy places! We had light showers all day today but it was still a nice day so we were able to be outside for most of the day. We didn't go swimming for general swim since it was a bit chilly, so we started watching the movie Monsters University before supper. We will finish that at a later time. Many of the kids said they have seen it, but it still seems to be popular.
We have been taking a walk around the "mile" every night after supper. It is good exercise and a hobby that we can have all of our lives. For some of us "older folk", it helps work off all of the wonderful food we have at Camp! We had knephla soup for lunch and spaghetti for dinner -yum! For our evening activity, we played Minute to Win It. It is like the game show on TV. We have many different short games like cup stacking or trying to throw playing cards into a can from a distance. Some of them are really hard! The campers had a great time though and everyone cheers for everyone else. Great sportsmanship! We had our first full day at Camp and it was an absolutely beautiful day! The campers attended classes during the day and had fun getting to know their instructors. At lunch, the boys from Cabin 22 shared that they had played "toilet tag" in recreation. That was a new one for me, but they assured me that it was fun!
This afternoon, we got in the lake for general swim. It was a bit chilly for the staff but it sure didn't seem to phase the campers. Many participated in a lively game of keep away, campers against staff. There were also many campers that took rides in the paddle boats or kayaks. We had our Welcome Dance for our evening activity. We saw a lot of moves! The campers are great dancers! There were definitely many tired kids when it was time to head to bed. It was a busy day getting everyone checked in and moved in to their cabins. After supper, we all introduced ourselves and got to know each other. We had our Sunday night church service and discovered we have some awesome singers. We headed to bed a little early tonight to have some counselor/camper time in our cabins. We had some light rain in the evening, and the day ended with a beautiful double rainbow over camp.
